Hey there! How 'cha doing? Did you enjoy your weekends? No? Yes? For me, I did enjoy my weekends with festival, bazaars and friend's wedding! Due to time constraints, I did not managed to go for the bazaars that were happening at Jaya One and Publika at the same time! (>_<)!
I can't rush off from my personal matters for the bazaars. But I managed to join the Bon Odori festival! Almost 2 years I did not join that festival, this year is a MUST for me! Never heard of Bon Odori festival? Come, I will explain to you...
Bon (盆) Festival is also called as 'Obon' (お盆) in Japan. This festival is a Japanese Buddhist culture to honor the spirits of one's ancestors. Usually this festival is celebrated in summer.
For Chinese, this festival is similar to 'Qing Ming' which is falls on 5th April every year, where the Chinese will return to their hometown or ancestral family places to visit and clean their ancestors' graves. But at the same time, Bon Festival also related to the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival as the Bon is celebrated on 15th day of 7th lunar month.

Japanese has celebrated this festival for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance called as Bon Odori. So, the 'Bon Odori' name is commonly used in Malaysia to address the Bon Festival. Do not worry, people from different religions also can join this festival as they are not celebrating the Bon Festival in prayer method. It just like eating, drinking and dancing field event.
My boyfriend and I reached the Kompleks Sukan Negara, Shah Alam or also known as Panasonic Sports Complex around 6pm. Traffic there started to get messy as a lot people has been there and still people pumping in to the place. The moment we parked and out from car, I asked my boyfriend whether we need to bring the umbrella out the car as the sky is so dark, he said it won't rain. Thanks, dear. It's raining cats and dogs the moment we reached the complex.
Luckily, we managed to get a spot under the complex cuz it's so many people that also want to cover themselves from the rain. We stand there almost an hour but the rain does not subside and it keeps on raining heavily. While standing and waiting the rain stops, I kept taking photos around that spot.
The fans from the committee handed out. It has all that night's programme stated.
There were some Japanese around us. The children were wearing yukata (is a summer kimono which more thinner than traditional kimono). They were so cuteeeeeee. Kawaiiiiii kodomo~ (*w*). A lot of Malaysians also wore yukata for this festival as well.
Almost an hour waiting the rain stops (but it does not stopped), my boyfriend decided to return back to our car and took the umbrella out as the rains started to reduce (lucky we parked nearby the complex!).
Under a medium sized umbrella, we still wet ourselves and the MUD!!! Except the football field which made of 'man-made grass' and some areas were covered with carpet, all places were muddy. My slippers were totally dirtied with mud. Even it's raining, the field is still full of people and of course, the viewing seats were fully seated with sea of humans.

Well, since we had umbrella with us, we went hunting for our "dinner". The first stall we saw was the Games stall such as 'fishing water balls' and also Balloon stall. The balloons are so colourful and nice but the price for one is around RM10-15. Can't buy but took a photo of them.
Komugi was the first food stall we encounter and they were selling Hokkaido Cheese Cakes and the Baum. Baum which it's full name is Baumkuchen, originated from Germany and is means "tree" or "log" cake. It is a traditional layered cake that is made of 15-18 layers of batter.
At that time, Komugi was having special sales of mini Baum, buy 4 at RM10. Cheap! So, I did bought 2 Soft Baum Original and 2 Soft Baum Matcha. We finished off the cakes before taking the photos of them... cuz we too hungry... (**shy**)
Since this festival supposed to be celebrated in summer, so most of the food or snacks found here were 'summer taste' like popsicles, shaved ice, BBQ food and beers. Even that night was continuously raining, people still enjoying these food/snacks.
Acting like we are in hot summer (even we were feeling chilly under rainy and windy weather), I wanted to eat the shaved ice! In manga, Japanese will eat these shaved ice to cool down the heat wave. They have many 'colourful' shaved ice, from yellow to green syrups, that stands for different tastes.
Instead of choosing simple shaved ice (shaved ice with syrups only), we chose the Mango Shaved Ice. Yeah, you can see the boss 'granted' us a big mango... meat with the seed. Took long time to finish the mango off. Lol
Next, we tackled the BBQ/Grilled food stall. Seeing a long queue for this stall, we also went queuing for the food, Quite regret it, cuz we queued for 40-50mins!!! Umbrella up, umbrella down, umbrella up.... Rains keep on pouring while we waiting to order the food.
Grilled squids!! Tauke (boss) was so busy grilling and preparing the orders. One squid costs RM15...
Grilled scallops with 12-15 sauces that you can choose. One of the customers ordered the scallops to be grilled with cheese. Yum yum yum. But you need to wait 20 mins for the scallops to be fully cooked.
We supposed to order grilled squids and grilled chicken chop. But the tauke said to save time, he is not making any grilled chicken chop, so he passing the order to next stall. Grilled chicken satays~~~

Yum yum. Now I looking at the photos... Makes me hungry!!! The squids were seriously nice! With garlic, chili powder and some kind of sweet sauce. Even it's quite expensive, WORTH IT!!
The grilled chicken satay also not bad. The satay has no fats, only meat. My saliva is now dripping....
While enjoying my delicacies, the visitors started to gather at the center of field for the 'Bon Odori' dance. See, a sea of humans......
The performers started dance on the stage that was set in the middle of field. So visitors will be dancing and circling the stage and enjoy the fun.
Some dances were using the fan given at the entrance,
That's the end of Bon Odori. Even that night is raining and mess up (there was a stall almost burn down due to the electricity as the lighting wires touched by water), we still enjoy the festival.
Behind the scene, there was a bunch of teenagers who were trying to cover themselves from rain by using picnic matt or tikar! (straw matt). They are so hilarious as they keep giving instructions where to go and how to turn!
xoxo,
your lil BFF ;)
