Ratha Fish Head Curry & Kacang Sempalit Factory @ Raub

This is my final post... It's not my "final" post for this blog. Just my final post about my 2D1N trip to Raub, Pahang. A brief information on Raub, my hometown. Raub is a small town which is very lively in the morning at the markets and kopitiam, quiet down in the afternoon and "yamcha" session begins in the night.

If you want to read the other posts about the trip, please do click into these two links, Part 1: http://mylilbffs.blogspot.com/2014/07/raub-durian-orchard-raub-pahang.html and Part 2: http://mylilbffs.blogspot.com/2014/07/laman-persona-cheroh-raub.html.

For our second day, I introduced our famous fish head curry in the town. Btw, I have a true story to tell here. Last time, I was in an ice-breaking sessions in a new environment, people tends to ask, "Tell me something about yourself. Your name, your age, your major... where is your hometown?" So, I mentioned, "I'm from Raub, Pahang" and whenever there were Indians, they will respond happily, "That place got a nice fish head curry!! I love their curry! The restaurant is called Ratha, right?"

Yeah, my home town is quite famous for this fish head curry. And recently, they have opened another branch in the Damansara uptown. Now KL people can enjoy having the fish head curry without travelling far.

Back to the Ratha in my home town, the fish head curry was quite cheap, compared the one I heard in KL. When I'm bringing my friend to there, one of them was asking me about the price. I mentioned that I'm not quite sure the price but it won't be very expensive.

Then he said, "KL's fish head curry was about RM300++ for the whole fish!" My eyes almost popped out when I heard that. Walao. RM300++ for a fish?! Seriously?? Luckily, that fish head curry was no where in that price range. Phew.

Ratha was located opposite the KWSP building or when you are entering the town, you're able to notice the restaurant as it will be the first building you will see and it's painted in red.

We ordered fish head curry for 4 persons, some lamb curry, and fried chickens for 8 persons. Some of us had rice and some had roti canai.

(I'm so sorry that I didn't take any photos of the food. Too blur blur cuz woke up too early and forget to bring my camera to the restaurant...)

The famous fish head curry! Yum yum.

The flavour is just perfect and the fish is quite soft, not overcooked or undercooked.

Since I forgot to take other photos of lamb curry and the fried chicken, I just can only explain thru words here. The lamb curry also not bad, however the price of it quite expensive and it's only a small portion. The fried chickens are actually very good and yummy! Last time, it was so cheap which around RM2.50 per piece but now, I think is around RM4.50 per piece. Everything's price has increased. Haiz.

When I came back to KL, my big sis asked me what I have ordered at Ratha. I answered her and she asked me why I didn't order the fried sotong (squids) which are quite superb taste there. Yeah, I didn't  remember that one. You guys/girls should try that too! And you also can buy their curry pastes as the souvenirs.

After having our breakfast at Ratha, on the way to the peanut factory, we dropped by to a local tea house which located at the shop lots behind the Ratha Restaurant. If you notice the 7-11 there, the tea house was located 2 or 3 shops beside it. This local tea house was famous for it's kaya puffs and also egg tarts. We just stopped by the road, and my friends went down to 'dapao' (take away) the kaya puffs.

Then, we went to the peanut factory. Raub also famous for its peanuts which is called as "Kacang Tanah Sempalit" (Peanut Sempalit). Sempalit is a place in Raub, where most of the residents were Chinese.

The peanut "oven". They still use the dried wood/charcoal to "fry" the peanut cuz this way will make the peanut tastes better than using those electric machines to "fry" the peanut. After the "frying" process, there were workers to do the quality control by picking up those spoilt one and throw away before packaging.

Buying some peanut for family and friends. I recommended you to buy the peanut which has "purple spots" on the peanuts. They were purple skins as well and the spots are on the skins. This flavour always selling fast as people never see this kind of peanuts which has spots! Too bad for us, we didn't manage to buy that flavour as they were sold out. After the visit to the factory, we went back to KL.

That's the end of our trip to Raub. There's still have a lot of attractions in Raub but some of us has appointments on that night. So, we rushed back to KL.

If you hardly find where else were the attractions in Raub, you can go to my 2nd post of Raub about Laman Persona and click into their website. They have done a good job by providing a brochure about Raub. And whenever you are entering Raub, you also can notice the signboard about the place of attractions in Raub. Raub have a lot of rivers and waterfalls as well.
